Israeli Army Seeks US Support to Counter Hezbollah Drone Attacks in North
Israel’s public broadcaster KAN stated that at least six drones were launched from Lebanon toward northern Israel on Wednesday, with some reportedly detonating at military positions.
KAN also reported that Ground Forces Commander Maj. Gen. Nadav Lotan is expected to travel to the United States in the coming days to coordinate the procurement of equipment aimed at addressing the growing drone threat. Senior unnamed military officials cited by the broadcaster said there are “no budget restrictions” on efforts to counter the attacks.
According to the report, the Israeli military is working to enhance early-warning systems designed to detect explosive drones, including new technologies intended to provide alerts similar to those used for incoming anti-tank missile threats.
The broadcaster added that Hezbollah has continued launching explosive drones over the past 24 hours targeting Israeli forces in both southern Lebanon and areas inside Israel, with some strikes reportedly hitting military installations.
Despite repeated Israeli claims of progress in drone defense capabilities, KAN noted that the military still lacks a fully effective response to the threat.
The report also said several members of a security team in a northern Israeli settlement were injured when a Hezbollah drone struck during an attempted rescue operation following an earlier attack. It added that the group has increasingly used a tactic of targeting troops and then striking rescue or evacuation teams that arrive at the scene.
Earlier on Wednesday, Hezbollah said it had carried out multiple drone attacks targeting Israeli military positions and vehicle concentrations, including an Iron Dome system at the Jal al-Allam site in northern Israel.
