Kuwait Says Intercepted 13 Missiles, 17 Drones in Iranian Attack

(MENAFN) Kuwait's Ministry of Defense announced Wednesday that its armed forces shot down 13 ballistic missiles and 17 drones after the projectiles penetrated the country's airspace over populated residential areas.

Defense ministry spokesperson Saud Al-Atwan, speaking at a media briefing, confirmed that the missiles and drones were tracked across multiple residential zones before being neutralized, though scattered shrapnel was reported to have fallen across various locations.

The interceptions were part of what Kuwait characterized as a sustained pattern of Iranian aggression against the Gulf state, Al-Atwan said, adding that the armed forces remain on heightened alert to counter further threats and safeguard national security.

In a parallel development Wednesday, Kuwait's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) announced the resumption of all Kuwait Airways operations through Terminal 4 (T4) at Kuwait International Airport, following what authorities described as Iranian attacks that claimed one life and left 63 others injured.

The DGCA said the decision to reopen came after exhaustive on-site inspections and rigorous technical evaluations conducted by specialized teams and relevant authorities to confirm the terminal's full operational readiness and its capacity to safely handle incoming flights and passengers.

Earlier in the day, authorities had moved to suspend all flights and shut down the country's airspace entirely after missile and drone strikes caused structural damage to airport facilities, triggering emergency response protocols and mandatory technical assessments.
